unipoli tampere: for employers: mentoring international students


Mentoring offers employers an easy avenue to develop intercultural competencies and the expertise needed when operating in an international environment. The free-of-charge mentoring programme gives employers the opportunity to build contacts and develop mentoring skills through practical experience.

Mentoring is a two-way relationship that benefits employers in a number of ways:

  • strengthen your leadership and teamwork skills
  • discover new strengths and abilities
  • expand your network of professional contacts through other mentors and mentees
  • share your thoughts and experiences with motivated students and graduates in your field
  • develop intercultural communication and mentoring skills
  • pave the way for further internationalization within your organization  
  • connect with potential future employees and talented young professionals

Mentoring is a process whereby experienced professionals impart their knowledge and skills to aspiring young adults at the beginning of their careers. Mentors are under no obligation to hire the mentee. The programme aims to help mentees develop their job hunting skills, acquire further knowledge of Finnish workplace culture and build professional contacts.

We are looking for mentors who are:

  • professionals in their own field
  • interested in different countries and intercultural communication
  • working in the private or public sector
  • fluent in English
  • working in the Tampere region  
  • working as entrepreneurs (for entrepreneurship mentoring programme)

The mentees are students in the international degree programmes at the University of Tampere, Tampere University of Applied Sciences and Tampere University of Technology or graduates with an international background.  The mentor and mentee meet face-to-face about five times for 1.5-2 hours. Four group sessions are also included in the programme. Becoming a mentor is a voluntary arrangement and mentors receive no financial compensation. The programme will start on September and ends in March 2014. Please note that also mentors are required to attend the group sessions.

Talent Tampere Mentoring Programme 2015-2016

There will be running Talent Talent Tampere Mentoring Programme in 2015-2016. The Programme will start in October 2015. Next application period begins in spring 2016 and new Programme begins in fall 2016.
